On May 7, 2010 in the exhibition hall of the National Archives of Armenia there was the solemn opening of the exhibition of documents, materials and photographs, on 65th anniversary of the Great Victory. The solemn opening ceremony was attended by Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia S. Ohanyan, veteran members of the Great Patriotic War, representatives of the intelligentsia and the media, archivists. In his opening remarks, Director of the National Archives A. Virabyan said: "Today, in all republics of the former Soviet Union with special solemnity the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory is celebrated. Victory over fascism, is celebrated all over the world. Armenian soldiers and generals made their undeniable contribution, sacrificing their lives for victory: from 500 000 Armenian soldiers - 250 000 did not return from the front. Of these, 103 were awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union. ?The Armenian people knew very well that the victory of fascism would be a real risk of recurrence of the terrible 1915. This exhibition and the anniversary of the Victory once again testify the fact that we all cherish the memory of our glorious past." In his speech, Minister of Defense S. Ohanyan warmly welcomed and congratulated all present guests, and then stressed the importance of the organized exhibitions:The Minister also congratulated the Armenian people with the great celebration of freedom of the city of Shushi and the formation of the national army of Armenia. After the speeches, the guests got acquainted with the exhibition of archival documents, most of which are demonstrated for the first time.
The exhibition will be open until mid-June this year.
